Transthoracic Echocardiogram And Abdominal Aorta Duplex
What is being visualized?
Echocardiogram:
Heart muscle. Left and right sides, including the valves and the arteries.
Abdominal Aorta:
Main artery of the body, connected to the left ventricle of the heart, descending all the way through the abdominal region.
What Is The Procedure?
- Transthoracic Echocardiogram and Aorta Duplex Ultrasound is a painless, non-invasive, procedure that examines the heart muscle and the aorta, through the chest region. The test is done to evaluate the function of the valves and any abnormalities in the heart muscles such as how well the blood is being pumped.
- Depending on the severity of the findings, the test might be repeated annually.
- Check for any narrowing or obstruction in the aorta, and to check for an abdominal aorta aneurism (AAA), caused by thinning of the arterial walls, creating a bubble that can rupture. AAA is a life-threatening emergency.
